Why we do this.
Hello friends, I’m Sasha, the owner and photographer at Sherbet Birdie. I began this business all the way back in 2006, whilst working as an Art Director in the publishing industry.
The concept for Sherbet Birdie was developed in a single, life-changing moment when, upon viewing my magazine, a friend comment on a retouched photo “Wow, I can’t believe that model doesn’t have any stretch marks?!”. In this moment, I experienced the profound realisation that I was a woman working in the media, and I was perpetuating unrealistic body/beauty standards for women - something that completely contradicts my feminist upbringing and values.
In this single moment I planned to: quit my job; switch careers; spend the $10k I had saved at my job on the purchase all of my photography equipment; and set about organically building Sherbet Birdie Photography Studio – a place where all humans can experience an editorial-style photoshoot ie a tailored experience including professional photography, posing direction, hair styling, makeup, wardrobe, catering and post-production – by a team of talented and passionate women at the top of their game. That’s us! Me, Dianne Murphy and Marija Milisavljevic.
The result of this unique and passionate approach is now over 2,000 clients realise how epically beautiful and powerful they are despite what the media and patriarchy would like us to believe.

Introducing Dianne Murphy
Dianne Murphy is a seasoned Hair & Makeup Artist, specialising in pinup and vintage aesthetics.
Growing up amidst the dynamic world of musical theatre, surrounded by performers and creatives, she developed a keen eye for style and detail. With training in film and television, she seamlessly integrates her talents into Sherbet Birdie. From building sets to styling wigs, her expertise knows no bounds.
Her love for all things hair and makeup spans from classic vintage looks to the intricate art of SFX and body painting.
Drawing from her background in plus-size modelling, Dianne effortlessly connects with clients, sharing her own journey and experiences. What truly lights up Dianne's world is sharing her passion for vintage styles with others.
Through her work, she not only transforms appearances but also boosts confidence, allowing her clients to radiate with self-assurance.
Introducing Marija Milisavljevic
Marija Milisavljevic is an artist with professional qualifications in hair and makeup as well as training and assessment.
As a creative for almost 15 years she has worked across many fields including fashion, bridal, film, body painting and television, and had her work featured in print and television.
She also won Bobbi Brown Artist of the Year in 2014.
Marija came on board full time to Sherbet Birdie in 2017 as our Hair & Makeup Artist after working for us on a freelance basis for several years, and quickly transitioned her skills to props, set builds and costuming.
She is now our full-time retoucher, polishing images for our lovely clients to treasure and remind them that they are beautiful and worthy of being celebrated. .

We have the most fabulous selection of costumes from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s, all lovingly collected from Europe, Australia and America. We cater to all shapes and sizes, so no matter whether you’re a voluptuous vixen or a lithe lovely, we’ll have something delicious to fit you like a glove. And what about makeup and hair? Our expert hair and makeup artist, Dianne will help you create the perfect look, transforming you right before your eyes!
Erm… what exactly is vintage photography?
Remember all those vintage vixens and drop-dead gorgeous glamour pusses, like Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Jane Russell and Betty Grable? Well, with a little help from the loving and nurturing, professional team at Sherbet Birdie, you can recreate that delicious look and take home amazing pin-up photos for you (and your loved ones) to treasure forever.
Do I need to be a model?
No, no modelling experience is required, so no matter if you’re the camera-shy type, we’ll help you create the perfect look, with relaxed direction in our comfy studios. We’ll also offer you a delicious high-tea menu including sweet treats, tea and coffee and of course champagne to help you get into the mood!
